This is a draft of a flier I’d send to ICSD to shop around. Ideally we’d find a partner to take care of the admin side - filling the seats, collecting the money.

COLOR CHANGING LAMP WORKSHOP AT ITHACA GENERATOR

Make an adjustable color changing lamp that you get to keep. This lamp and workshop were designed by IG board member, Greg Armstrong.

In this workshop you will learn and practice

  • soldering
  • circuitry
  • color theory
  • computer programming
  • product assembly
  • troubleshooting and teamwork

3 hour workshop
For kids age (10 - 14)
$60 per student
4-10 seats available

About the Instructor: Greg Armstrong is a STEM education specialist with a background in physics and extensive experience teaching science and engineering to kids of all ages. He worked as the Education Director for the Virginia Space Flight Academy for 4 years and helped found TEC Hub Foundation, a non-profit makerspace in Virginia. Since moving to Ithaca, Greg joined the board of the Ithaca Generator and is enjoying finding ways to pursue his interests in the Ithaca community.

He worked as the Education Director for the Virginia Space Flight Academy for 4 years and helped found TEC Hub Foundation, a non-profit makerspace in Virginia. Since moving to Ithaca, Greg joined the board of the Ithaca Generator and is enjoying finding ways to pursue his interests in the Ithaca community.

Age Range: 10 and up
The class would work for a variety of age ranges, but it would probably be best to limit it to something like 10-14, 14-18, or adults. I think it would work better if there wasn’t a huge range in a single classroom.

Also what do you think about “Color Changing Lamp” rather than “Colored Lamp”?

Ithaca Generator is looking for a partner - parent, teacher, or administrator - who would organize a group of students for this workshop. You provide the students and gather the fees, we provide the space, instructors, and content.
